Violin Classes
Patient, careful teaching for a demanding instrument

What learning the violin here looks like
The violin is honest — it tells you immediately when your hand is in the wrong place. That is exactly why it needs unhurried, attentive teaching. We spend real time on posture, bow hold and intonation early, because those are what decide whether you sound beautiful in year two.
What you’ll learn
- Balanced posture and a relaxed, sustainable bow hold
- Accurate left-hand placement and playing in tune
- Long, even bow strokes and a warm consistent tone
- Détaché, legato, staccato and spiccato bowings
- Reading notation, key signatures and rhythm confidently
- Vibrato, position work and expressive phrasing

Violin questions we get asked
How do I know what size violin to buy?
Size is set by arm length, not age — they run from 1/16 up to 4/4. Come in and we will measure properly before you spend anything. Children usually change size every year or two.
How long until it stops sounding scratchy?
Honestly, four to eight weeks of consistent practice for a clean open-string tone. Everyone goes through it. Bow hold and bow speed are what fix it, and that is the first thing we work on.
Can adults start the violin from scratch?
Yes. Adults progress differently from children — faster on theory and reading, slower on the physical habits — and we teach the two groups differently for exactly that reason.
