THE COURSE

What learning the flute here looks like

Flute rewards breath control more than finger speed. We build your embouchure and air support first so you get a clear, full tone, then open up range, agility and repertoire β€” Western concert flute or the subcontinental bansuri, whichever you have come for.

What you’ll learn

  • Embouchure shaping and steady, supported airflow
  • Clear tone across the low, middle and high registers
  • Breathing technique and phrasing over long lines
  • Tonguing, articulation and clean fast passages
  • Reading notation and (for bansuri) learning by ear
  • Vibrato, ornamentation and expressive control

Hear the Flute

Real recorded samples, not synthesised tones. Play the phrase, or tap the individual notes.

QUESTIONS

Flute questions we get asked

Do you teach bansuri or Western flute?

Both, and they are taught differently β€” bansuri work is largely by ear with raag and ornamentation at the centre; concert flute is notation-led. Tell us which tradition you want and we will match you to the right instructor.

I cannot get any sound out of it at all. Is that a bad sign?

Not at all β€” it is the single most common first-class experience. Getting a first stable note usually takes one to three sessions, and it is entirely a matter of embouchure, which we correct in person.

Is flute good for someone with weak lungs?

It is generally gentler than brass and many students find their breath control improves noticeably. If you have a specific respiratory condition, mention it and we will pace the lessons appropriately.
