Guitar Classes
From your first open chords to playing lead

What learning the guitar here looks like
Guitar is the fastest instrument to get playing songs on, and the one most students stick with for life. We start you on real songs almost immediately, then fill in the technique, theory and ear training underneath so you are not stuck strumming the same four chords a year later.
What youβll learn
- Clean fretting, strumming patterns and chord changes that do not stall
- Open chords, barre chords and the CAGED shapes across the neck
- Reading chord charts, tabs and standard notation
- Fingerstyle picking, arpeggios and travis picking
- Pentatonic and major scales for improvising and solos
- Playing and singing at the same time
Hear the Guitar
Real recorded samples, not synthesised tones. Play the phrase, or tap the individual notes.
Beginner to advanced, one clear path
Timings assume one class a week plus regular practice. Everyone moves at their own pace β these are typical, not targets.
Beginner
- Tuning, holding the instrument and building finger strength
- Open chords and smooth transitions between them
- Four or five complete songs you can play start to finish
Intermediate
- Barre chords and moveable shapes anywhere on the neck
- Fingerstyle arrangements and percussive strumming
- Pentatonic soloing over backing tracks
Advanced
- Modes, extended chords and improvisation over changes
- Lead technique β bending, vibrato, legato, sweep
- Band playing, recording and live performance

Guitar questions we get asked
Should I learn on acoustic or electric?
Either is a fine place to start β pick the one that plays the music you actually want to play. Acoustic builds finger strength faster; electric is physically easier and better if rock, blues or metal is the goal. The chords and theory are identical.
My fingers hurt after practising. Is that normal?
For the first two or three weeks, yes β you are building calluses. It should be soreness, never sharp pain. If it is sharp, something is wrong with your hand position and we will fix it in the next class.
Do you teach songs I choose myself?
Yes, and we encourage it. Bring the song you want to play and we will arrange it to your current level rather than making you wait until you are "ready".
