Drum Set Classes
Groove, timing and four limbs that finally cooperate

What learning the drum set here looks like
Drumming is coordination and time before it is speed. We put you on a full kit with a metronome from early on, build the core grooves properly, and get you playing along to real songs β because a drummer who can hold a pocket is worth more than one who can only do fills.
What youβll learn
- Correct grip, stroke technique and relaxed playing
- Rock, pop, funk and shuffle grooves on the full kit
- Reading drum notation and counting subdivisions
- Independent hand and foot coordination
- Fills, transitions and dynamic control
- Playing tight to a click and locking in with a band
Hear the Drum Set
Real recorded samples, not synthesised tones. Play the phrase, or tap the individual strokes.
Beginner to advanced, one clear path
Timings assume one class a week plus regular practice. Everyone moves at their own pace β these are typical, not targets.
Beginner
- Grip, single strokes and consistent stick height
- Basic eighth-note rock beat, hands and feet together
- Counting out loud and playing to a slow click
Intermediate
- Sixteenth-note grooves, ghost notes and hi-hat work
- Fills around the kit and clean transitions
- Playing complete songs start to finish
Advanced
- Odd time signatures and polyrhythms
- Double-kick technique, linear and gospel chops
- Live band playing, studio recording and soloing

Drum Set questions we get asked
I live in a flat β can I even practise?
Yes. Around 80% of early drum practice happens on a rubber practice pad, which is barely audible. We will show you how to structure pad practice so your kit time in the studio is spent well.
Do I need to buy a kit to start?
No. Start on ours. All you need at home is a practice pad and a pair of sticks, which is an inexpensive purchase. Most students wait six months or more before buying a kit or an electronic set.
Am I too old to start drums?
No. Drumming is physical but not athletic, and adult beginners often progress quickly because they can count and subdivide consciously. We teach students well into their fifties and beyond.
